It appears that due to the efforts of one of our lower-ranking archivists that an old document has re-surfaced in the munuments room. From what can be deciphered - sadly the document is very greasy and smells strongly of vinegar and fish - that at the time of the re-building of the army for the befreiungskrieg, the Margravate was sorely short of funds, and applied to the Government of Great Britain for aid.
Some of this aid, it appears, was in the form of recently superseded items of uniform apparel, including a number of Light Dragoon helmets, replaced in the British army by shakos. It seems that sufficient number of these helmets were received to allow them to be issued to all four regiments of Leichte Dragoner and to the Reitendeartillerie truppen.
These helmets were worn apparently until the end of the period of the Occupation of France. So far, it has not been possible to discover exactly when they were replaced in our own army.
